Easements
“Old Flat Rock has no better friend than Historic Flat Rock, Inc. organized in 1968 by citizens determined to preserve the charm and history of their surroundings, and to direct future growth in harmony with the natural and historic character they value. The nonprofit group has put together sufficient capital to buy and restore structures in danger of unseemly alterations or collapse, selling the repaired works with protective covenants. The members of Historic Flat Rock also encourage their patrons to place such easements voluntarily on their own properties, and a great many have done so. Among them are the owners of several properties prominent in this volume, including Dunroy, the Rock, Many Pines, Dolce Far Niente, Saluda Cottages, Oak Knoll, and Rutledge Cottage.
